Our Company - History
| 1927 | Davidson Furniture Company is founded by Charles Davidson and his two sons, Russell and Leo. The company specializes in producing the finest quality upholstered furniture frames in the Grand Rapids area. |
| 1970 | A greater emphasis is placed on supplying plywood seat and backs to the office furniture industry. |
| 1975 | Davidson Furniture Company changes its name to Davidson Plyforms, Inc. to signal the change in focus |
| 1979 | A fruitful partnership with Becker KG, the industry leader and innovator, is begun |
| 1988 | Davidson purchases the first 5 axis CNC for curved plywood application |
| 1994 | Genesis Seating is created due to the demand for high-design products. |
| 1995 | Davidson earns ISO 9001:2000 Certification. |
| 1997 | Tooling capabilities are brought in-house with heating plates and a CNC, thereby reducing tooling lead time. |
| 1997 | Engineering begins to use SDCR Ideas®, a solid modeling program |
| 1998 | Genesis Seating earns ISO 9001:2000 Certification |
| 1998 | Interactive website is launched, providing customers with electronic ordering, tracking and shipping notification capabilities |
| 1998 | CNC programming is begun based on solid modeling |
| 1998 | Electronic ISO help system is started |
| 1998 | Foam molds first used for customer design review, reducing cost and time from design idea to prototype |
| 1999 | Davidson recycles old NCN machines by retrofitting them with 5 axis cutting heads. |
| 2000 | Facility configuration is changed to work cells, reducing manufacturing time and improving quality |
| 2001 | Davidson becomes a Leggett & Platt, Incorporated partner |
| 2001 | Control plans implemented to enhance quality |
| 2002 | Davidson establishes sales team to enhance customer relationships |
| 2003 | Laser etching and finishing line capabilities added to our product offering of complementary services for customers |
| 2004 | High Density Fiberboard (HDF) used in production of curved door fronts |
| 2005 | IRT (Innovative Resin Technologies) is created to provide a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to off-shore manufacturing |
